Ebenezer Cemetery is considered the area’s original French pioneers’ cemetery. In the early 1830’s the land surrounding the cemetery was owned by the John Bell family. John and his wife Martha Jane have been included in the interments as a memorial rather than fact since no one knows exactly where they were buried. In 1838 the land was purchased by the Druhot family and its patriarch, Frederic Druhot, was the first of the French community to be interred in 1841. The cemetery is located at the top of a small hill on Sardinia/Mowrystown Road southwest of Mowrystown. Parking is somewhat difficult. Many, many headstones are broken and/or missing.
